About

The name of our permaculture farm consists of two words: "rév", which can be translated to either "ferry" or "haven" and "puszta", which (in Somogy, the area that we live in) refers to "forest pastures". So it may either mean a "way/road towards a pasture", or a "lush safehaven".

This meaning is symbolic and appropriate, as our farm is a truly remote one, set in the middle of a picturesque forest, far from the noises of cities, villages or cars. The forest is a national park, so there are no insecticides, pesticides, fungicides or any other harmful substances in use in a very large radius. As such, our farm is ideally located for ecological agriculture and permaculture.

At present our farm is home to 2 cows and expecting two calves (kárpáti borzderes), 2 dogs (komondor), three cats, a paint stallion, an australorp rooster and hens of various breeds, a couple of indian runner ducklings, thousands of honeybees and us, of course: Anna and David.

David has been living here for two years. He witnessed the house we live in and all the adjacent buildings in their worst state, and started renovating and pulling the farm together from the very beginning. The main house (the one we live in) is about 120 years old, and unfortunately had been heavily neglected since its first owner passed away. We tried saving as much of it as it was possible, as both of us value everything old, that manages to stand the test of time.

There is another house, 60 paces away, which is dedicated to host visitors, however it is still under construction. This house will have three separate bedrooms, electricity, running water, wi-fi, a fully functional bathroom and a small kitchen - in short, all necessary amenities. At present, two of the rooms are sufficiently furnished and fit for receiving guests, however, we can not heat them, so we cannot accept any volunteers in winter time.

David is also well-versed in martial arts (especially ninjutsu), so whoever comes to visit us, will be free to join in on his daily training routine. We are planning to establish a Dojo on the long run, but for the moment we have set up a small work-out room, complete with weightlifting equipment, boxing bag and others, which can also be used freely by any of our guests. Also, there is jujutsu training in the nearby village, which David attends twice a week, and any enthusiasts can tag along with him.

Anna used to work as a designer and seamstress with a great fondness for historical fashion, be it that of the nobles, the bourgeois or the peasants. She is especially accomplished in Hungarian and Transylvanian folk attire and culture, and she can show-and-tell long tales for those who are interested. She learnt folk dancing for over 10 years, and will happily teach some basics to those brave enough. Any guest who is interested in eco-friendly and/or historical beauty treatments would be in for a treat, as Anna uses a lot of such practices (which, for instance, helped her grow a healthy knee-length hair!) and is open to share them.
