In my recollection Hungary will always be the country of hospitality. My WWOOF-Hosts Cheryl and Roland, the people in the hostel I stayed, the people in the national Park of Ópusztaszer and even the staff at the train station - all of them have been friendly towards me. As it was my first WWOOF experience this was very motivating, especially as I didn't know a word of the Hungarian language. Another thing I got impressed by is the very special and mighty history of Hungary, which is quite different in comparison to other European histories. Beside the experience of physical work I also learnt to relax better. I still benefit from that. And don't miss the chance to try Hungarian applesoup.

The things I learned about during my two weeks WWOOFing in Hungary were centered around simplicity, honesty, and purity. Observing Roland and Cheryl's devotion to their farm and its growth was both inspiring and educational. I was not only able to participate in the daily activities that make up an organic lifestyle, but also hear about the moral principles that are behind it. In addition to working in the garden, I learned lovely things on the side like traditional Hungarian cooking, dowsing, and spinning Racka wool into yarn. My experience was rich, multifaceted, and awakening, and I am grateful for the ways it will continue to affect my life.

The time I spent in Hungary was the most impressive wwoofing experience I've had so far.

I spent two weeks at Pangea in the during a summer trip through Europe. Pénzesgyör is a small rural village, which was quite a jarring change from the large cities I had been staying in. I worked from 8-16 on weekdays, doing typical farm work. Some examples: cutting grass with a scythe, preparing products for display and sale, trimming trees.
During my stay here, there were also other Hungarians along with their families. All of them were very pleasant and hospitable, and I got to know many good people. This would not have been possible staying at a hostel.
Every weekday, I received a lunch of Hungarian food. I never got the same meal twice, and all of them were delicious. The pantry for volunteers is well-stocked.
I found my time here extremely rewarding. It was a welcome change from the hectic nature of travelling and it gave me some much-needed time to relax and decompress. I would recommend some time here for anyone who desires to stray from the beaten track of large touristic cities and hostelling.

I spent one week in the Pangea association, in August.
Akos is graduated in biology and can teach a lot of interesting things, I think; he is a good guy too :-)
The place is not very big, but you can find herbs and a special and rare kind of Hungarian sheep. The accommodation is ok, I had a bathroom with the warm shower, a kitchen and the space I need for myself.
Outside the place is beautiful and very quite. Good weather, good people and good food. I spent a beautiful time in Pangea.

I would like to say that I am very happy with WWOOF HU website. I am currently at Pipacs Tanya and this is a family that is TRULY an organic, down to earth and earth friendly family. They are about as organic as you can get. We have already learned how to make goat cheese, and bread. The hosts eat almost nothing they don't grow or trade for. They are wonderful and gracious hosts and if you get a chance to visit this farm be ready for a deep cultural experience and some hard work! :-) They will treat you like one of the family and the home cooked meals are wonderful! If you're spoiled and just want a free meal, this is not the place for you. :-) Be ready to work and eat organic at Pipacs Tanya. I've learned a lot and am thankful to the family for my experience. Great Family, great kids.
